THE YEAR'S TURNING.

Posted by RLD on 24th December 2008

2009 promises to be an even more adventurous year for Sandstone Press.  We have just published our new e-catalogue, which you can download from the link above, and you will see that we are committed to further increasing the width, depth and interest of our books.  January and March will bring our first hardbacks and all through the year we will be introducing exciting new authors, all strong, important voices, funny here and there, deeply serious when appropriate, always interesting.  We promise fresh returns to English-language and Gaelic literacy that will knock the socks off Santa.

Our book at the turn of the year is A BEND IN THE NILE by Chris McIvor.  Before it, WHITE RIVER, THE KERRACHER MAN and BETWEEN WEATHERS have all gone to reprint.  BETWEEN WEATHERS was nominated for the Saltire Awards, like SHADOW BEHIND THE SUN and ON THE ATLANTIC EDGE before it.  SCOTTISH PRINTED BOOKS marked and celebrated the 500th anniversary of printing in Scotland.  There is more to come, more even than we are showing in the catalogue at the moment.

We will keep the links to Chris McIvor’s Hi-Arts podcast and Mary Blance’s Radio Shetland interview with Ron McMillan here (below) for your entertainment during any idle moments you might have between putting the presents away and ringing in the New Year.  There we will leave the web site until its next update on Friday 9th January.  Meantime, our books continue to be available in the shops and on the internet.

They say next year will be tough financially for us all, but we promise to see it through with you.  Still bringing you the best in contemporary, quality reading; books that are entertaining, mind opening, delightfully written, beautifully designed, clearly printed and strongly bound, at prices you can afford.

All of us at Sandstone, the Board, the authors, designers, typesetters, IT, marketing, wish you a very Merry Christmas and a Happy and Prosperous New Year.  Now please do explore this web site, the book pages and the hinterlands.  It is an artwork in itself.
